Arkadelphia Human Development Center
The Arkadelphia Human Development Center is one of the five state-run Human Development Centers operated by the Arkansas Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. It opened on 7 October 1968 as a residential program for children and was the first facility of its kind in Arkansas to be nationally accredited, in 1974. It now serves adults aged 18 and over who have left school, with a functional capacity of 110 residents, and offers respite and short-term placements as well as long-stay care. Its stated focus is transitional placement and vocational training so that people can return to their own homes or to supervised living through the Medicaid waiver and community providers. On-campus work includes the Clark County Recycling Center and craft production sold through the DDS shop The Blue Umbrella.
