Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)
AHCCCS is Arizona's single state Medicaid agency. Arizona runs essentially all of its Medicaid through capitated managed care rather than fee-for-service, so AHCCCS contracts with health plans rather than paying most providers directly. It administers the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS), the AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) plans, the ACC-Regional Behavioral Health Agreements, the American Indian Health Program and the tribal contractor arrangements. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, AHCCCS is the agency that holds the ALTCS authority under which the DES Division of Developmental Disabilities operates as a program contractor.
