The Bureau of Special Education administers IDEA Part B in Connecticut. It oversees the 169 local school districts and the state's approved private special education programs, runs the state complaint, mediation and due process hearing system, monitors district compliance, and publishes the guidance districts use on eligibility, IEPs, least restrictive environment and secondary transition. Families use it when a district dispute cannot be resolved locally.
