Southbury Training School

Confirmed Profile

Southbury Training School is Connecticut's state institution for people with intellectual disability and the only large residential facility of its kind left in the state. It was built in the late 1930s and is operated directly by the Department of Developmental Services, providing residential, medical, vocational and therapeutic supports on a campus in Southbury together with day programs on and off campus. Its population has fallen steadily under the Messier settlement, which requires each resident's interdisciplinary team to exercise professional judgment about placement in the most integrated setting appropriate to that person.
