Area 14 Family Care Council

Confirmed Profile

Area 14 Family Care Council covers Hardee, Highlands, and Polk. Family Care Councils are Florida-specific statutory bodies. Members are volunteers appointed by the Governor, and are themselves people with developmental disabilities or their family members. Councils mentor families, run educational forums, review Agency for Persons with Disabilities policy, brief legislators, and advocate for people with developmental disabilities and their families. They are not service providers and hold no funds for individuals. The network has operated for more than thirty years and consists of one statewide council and 15 local area councils.
