Early Steps
Early Steps is Florida's Part C early intervention program under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, administered by the Department of Health's Children's Medical Services. It serves infants and toddlers from birth to 36 months who have a developmental delay or an established condition likely to cause a delay, and their families. Services are delivered in the child's natural environment through an Individualized Family Support Plan and include evaluation, service coordination, developmental therapies, speech, occupational and physical therapy, and family training. Anyone can make a referral, there is no income test, and Early Steps pays for services not covered by public or private insurance. Private insurance is only billed with the parent's authorisation. Delivery is through 15 Local Early Steps programs covering all 67 counties.
