Georgia Advocacy Office

Confirmed Profile

The Georgia Advocacy Office is Georgia's federally mandated protection and advocacy system, the independent legal advocacy organization every state must designate for people with disabilities. It works with and for people in Georgia who are labelled disabled or mentally ill, with four focus areas: freedom from abuse and neglect, access to services and programs, being valued and respected as citizens, and children and youth. It investigates abuse and neglect, has access authority to enter facilities, provides legal representation and self-advocacy support, and monitors institutions including Georgia's state hospitals.
