Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities
GCDD is Georgia's developmental disabilities council under the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, one of 56 such councils nationally. It was created in 1971 as the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities and renamed in 2009. It does not provide direct services: federal rules prohibit that. Instead it works on public policy, advocacy and grantmaking, commissioning research, funding demonstration projects, running Advocacy Days during the legislative session, publishing Making a Difference magazine, and awarding Dottie Adams Scholarships of up to $2,500 for people in the DD community to attend conferences. It is the state's loudest public voice on the NOW and COMP waiver waiting list.
