Life Plan Trust, started jointly by The Arc of North Carolina and NAMI North Carolina in 1990, operates first party and third party pooled special needs trusts for people with developmental disabilities or severe and persistent mental illness. It manages trust funds so that a person's own settlement, inheritance or family funds can pay for extras without jeopardizing benefit eligibility, and it provides financial management and personal advocacy services to families.
