How to get services in Virginia

Most long-term supports are paid for by Medicaid, often through a waiver program. Start with Medicaid, then get on the program that fits. Many programs have a waiting list, so apply early.

Start here Virginia Medicaid (Cardinal Care) · Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) and local Departments of Social Services

Apply online (opens in a new tab) · Call 1-833-522-5582 (1-833-5CALLVA), TDD 1-888-221-1590 · Apply at your local Department of Social Services.

SSI recipients in Virginia do not get Medicaid automatically; they must apply and meet Virginia Medicaid rules (Virginia is a 209(b) state).

Adults 65 and older, blind, or disabled can qualify for full Medicaid as Aged, Blind, or Disabled (ABD). People who need long-term care can be screened for the CCC Plus waiver or a DD waiver.
