Privacy at the Disability Atlas
Last updated 20 October 2026. This page covers disabilityatlas.com, the Ask a question bar, and the Atlas service for AI tools at mcp.disabilityatlas.com. The Disability Atlas is run by ConnectIDD, LLC.
The short version
- You can search everything without an account.
- We count visits without cookies, without IP addresses, and without names.
- We keep your name and email only if you sign in, download, update a listing, or write to us.
- We never sell your information, never use advertising trackers, and never give sponsors your information.
- We do not ask about your disability or your health.
- Ask us to see, fix, or delete what we hold: [email protected].
When you search
Searching, filtering, maps, listing pages, the Family Journey, State of Support, and the Funding Atlas all work without an account. Your searches run in your own browser. It downloads the data file for the state you pick, the same file everyone gets, so the words and filters you search with never reach us.
To learn which pages help people, the site counts page views, clicks on links, file downloads, and feedback sent. Each count records the page, the link, the site that sent you (if your browser shares it), and your country and US state, worked out by Cloudflare from your connection. It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address, and holds no names.
To stop the counting in your browser, add #notrack to the end of any Atlas address once. Add #track to turn it back on.
When you ask a question
Ask a question sends what you type to the Atlas service, which uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, to turn it into a search and a short answer from Atlas data. ConnectIDD does not store your question. To keep Ask free for everyone, the service keeps a scrambled code made from your IP address to count how many questions come from one place each day. That code is deleted the next day.
Please do not type names, medical details, or other private information into Ask. It does not need them to find services.
When you use the Atlas in your own AI tool
You can connect the Atlas to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT at mcp.disabilityatlas.com. It needs no account and no key.
- What the Atlas receives: the search your AI sends, such as a state, a county, and a type of service. The Atlas uses it only to answer and then keeps nothing of it.
- What the Atlas counts: which tool was used, the state, which AI tool sent it (from the name it gives), how many results came back, and how long it took. No question text, no names, no IP addresses.
- A limit on heavy use: about 120 searches a minute from one connection, so nobody can copy the whole Atlas. This check is not stored.
- Your conversation is yours and your AI provider's. What you say to your assistant is covered by that company's privacy policy, not this one. The Atlas sees only the search your assistant chooses to send.
When you sign in or download
Spreadsheet downloads are free for people with disabilities and families. To keep them free, the Atlas asks who you are the first time:
- Your name and email.
- Which describes you: a person with a disability, a family member, a disability organization, a foundation, or other.
- Your organization, if you want to give it.
There is no password. Signing in keeps a cookie on disabilityatlas.com for up to a year so you stay signed in; signing out removes it. Each download is recorded with what it covered (for example a state and a type of service) and how many rows it had, so we can count downloads and show you your own history.
When you add, update, or verify a listing
The Update a Listing and Self Verify forms ask for your name, email, and role, the changes you suggest, and, for Self Verify, a logo if you send one. The form also records your country and US state. A person at ConnectIDD reviews every submission. What you tell us about the organization (its services, hours, languages, logo) may appear on its public listing. Your own name and email are never published. For Self Verify we check that your email matches the organization's website.
When you send feedback
The Give us feedback form sends your message, the page you were on, and your name and email if you give them, to ConnectIDD by email through Web3Forms. Name and email are optional.
Payments
Organizations that download beyond the free limit can buy a membership. Payments go through Stripe. ConnectIDD receives your name, email, and what you bought, never your full card number. Support through Patreon is handled by Patreon.
Services we use
| Service | What it does for the Atlas |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site, the data, and the Atlas services, and protects them from attacks. Like any web host, it sees your IP address to send you the page. |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the two typefaces the site uses. Your browser asks Google for the font files, so Google sees your IP address. |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Reads questions typed into Ask a question and turns them into a search. Under its business terms it may not use them to train its models. |
| Web3Forms | Delivers the feedback form to ConnectIDD's email. |
| Stripe | Takes membership payments. ConnectIDD never sees your full card number. |
| Links that leave the Atlas | Listings, sponsors, Patreon, and state agencies have their own privacy policies. Sponsor links add a tag that says you came from the Atlas, so sponsors can see the Atlas sent visitors. They do not learn who you are. |
What we never do
- Sell, rent, or trade your information.
- Use advertising trackers or share information for advertising.
- Give sponsors your information. Sponsors also never decide who is listed or in what order.
- Buy information about you from anyone.
Disability and health information
The Atlas never asks about your disability, diagnosis, or health. Search filters such as a condition or a type of service stay in your browser and are not tied to you. The one exception: if you are signed in and download a spreadsheet, the record of that download includes the filters it used. The Atlas is a directory, not a health care provider, so it is not covered by HIPAA, but we treat anything sensitive with the same care.
Children
The Atlas is for adults, including parents and caregivers looking for help for a child. It is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
How long we keep things
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Page view and click counts | Kept as counts for the Impact Dashboard. They hold no names, emails, or IP addresses. |
| Limits on Ask and forms | A scrambled code made from your IP address, deleted within a day (Ask) or an hour (forms). |
| Ask questions | Not stored by ConnectIDD. |
| AI tool searches | Counts only (tool, state, which AI, result count, time). |
| Your account and download history | Kept while you use the Atlas. Ask us and we delete it. |
| Listing submissions | Kept as the record of what changed on a listing and who asked. Ask us and we remove your name and email. |
| Feedback emails | Kept in ConnectIDD's inbox while they are useful. |
Your choices and rights
Write to [email protected] to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We answer within 30 days, and you do not need to say why. These choices are open to everyone, wherever you live. We protect what we keep with access limited to ConnectIDD staff, and we use it only to run the Atlas.
Changes and contact
If we change what the Atlas keeps, we will update this page and the date at the top first. For a big change, such as a new kind of information, we will say so on the home page.
Questions: [email protected]. The Atlas is built and run by ConnectIDD, LLC.
